http://afrodaddy.com/The-AfroBlog/landau-e... I'm not a big fan of television talent shows, but there is one that I do enjoy - America's Got Talent. As compared to other shows that only display a very limited range of talent (can you say "American Idol"), America's Got Talent has contestants who can not only sing, but they are competing with dancers, magicians, dirt bike riders, and anything you can think of that requires some special skills. Needless to say, the range of talent options generates a much more interesting show and unlike other reality tv, this show is not scripted and is based solely on the talent of the individuals and the groups that perform.
The biggest star of the show emerged last night in the season finale when Landau Eugene Murphy won the $1 million prize. Landau is an amazing story; a 37 year old African American man from West Virginia. Before America's Got Talent Landau had never auditioned for ANYTHING in his life and was washing cars in the local West Virginia detailing shop. At 19 he was homeless but had managed to pull himself out of that to marry a lovely woman and raise some beautiful children.
Landau amazed the judges in his first audition with his brilliant voice along with his charm, wit and humility. In the style of crooners past like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole, Landau blazed through the competition to capture the top spot in the competition and in America's heart. Big congrats to Landau as he is a reminder to us all that you can do anything if you dare to dream it.
