I get down a lot on current hip hop because I really feel that the artists have slipped a lot. What used to be revolutionary, political, fun, and interesting has degraded to one song after another glorifying gangsters and degrading women. This song by Lupe Fiasco (one of the new and very positive rappers) brings some of that positivity back - in a dream!
The song "All Black Everything" is my current fave song. Contrary to the title, it is not really about all black anything. It is about a dream he has about a past that was free from racism and slavery, and an alternate reality that is the result. You can probably tell from my posts that I love black people, but hopefully everybody can see that I love ALL people and I detest racism. I am committed to all black people coming up, but that doesn't mean I want anybody to fall because of it. To me, this is the measure of a compassionate and equal society and that is my dream (along with Lupe).
